The City of San Antonio will conduct a public hearing to rename the sports complex at Old Spanish Walking Trails Park on July 9th, 2024, as required by Article XVI of Chapter 6 of the City Code. Comments, oral or written, concerning the naming of park from all interested citizens will be considered.

Written comments (up to 300 words maximum) may be submitted via email by Monday at 4:00 PM on July 8th, 2024, to the Committee liaison: [email protected]. These comments will be given to the committee. Please include your full name and home or work address.

Councilwoman Dr. Sukh Kaur has submitted a recommendation that the sports complex at Old Walking Trails Park be named Edward D. Garza Soccer Complex at Old Spanish Walking Trails Park.

Located on the northwest side of District 1, the Old Spanish Walking Trails soccer fields have been a cherished part of the community where kids of all backgrounds and ages build character, community, and camaraderie. The activation of these fields was accomplished with the vision of former City Councilman and Mayor Edward D. Garza. In addition to the milestone partnerships that laid the groundwork for the development of Toyota and Texas A&M San Antonio in our City. Behind and beyond the dais, Mayor Ed Garza always had a vision to see San Antonio grow as a place for soccer. Through his work with the Urban Champions Soccer Academy, Old Spanish Walking Trails has helped thousands of kids become stronger leaders and team members through sport.

To honor the former Mayor for his contribution to our community and recognize his work in support of developing young leaders in San Antonio is worthy of this commemoration.
