Artwork created through the City’s Public Art Process must first go through SASpeakUp community engagement to determine the artwork’s theme and other important design aspects. This engagement is quantified through a SASpeakUp survey which provides critical information for artist selection and design.

Survey open date: October 10, 2025

Survey close date: November 7, 2025

The City of San Antonio's Department of Arts & Culture has identified Port San Antonio as one of our community’s public art project opportunities. The project on the Port San Antonio campus will be a sculpture placed in a community plaza. We are in the early stages of the project and need your help selecting the top theme to explore in the artwork’s design. The Public Works scope includes improvements to the nearby roadways.

The public artwork at Port San Antonio will follow the guiding theme of San Antonio: a Trajectory of Transformation. This piece should honor heritage, celebrate today, and imagine the bright future of San Antonio. Port San Antonio continues to build on a legacy of innovation and advancement as the home to leading local and global enterprises in aerospace, defense, cybersecurity, space-based research, and much more. The Port campus also serves as the epicenter of local technology jobs and is home to innovative educational programs aimed at inspiring the next generation of advanced industry professionals in San Antonio. Most importantly, Port San Antonio is a thriving hub for community, bringing together diverse stakeholders to dream big for themselves and our community and play an active part in developing technological innovations that have deep roots in our community and are used across the nation and around the world. A sense of dynamism and innovation should drive the design—looking to the future and beyond as way to showcase San Antonio’s Trajectory of Transformation.
