Old Highway 90 Public Art Sculpture Opportunity
The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture has identified the Old Highway 90 area as an opportunity for a public art sculpture project. The sculpture will be located at the corner of Southwest 37th Street and Old Highway 90 in the historic corridor. This project is funded through the 1% for Public Art as part of the 2017-2022 Bond.

All Public Art Projects managed by the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture follow a comprehensive process. The Public Art Process includes six major checkpoints, in which we check in with the community and stakeholders for updates and feedback from beginning to end. Milestones with an asterisk indicate required approvals by our Public Art Committee and San Antonio Arts Commission. On average, a project can be completed in up to 24 months.
Project Overview:
This project was selected by the community to be located along Old Highway 90. This location is an area steeped in history. The City’s Office of Historic Preservation has designated the area as a Legacy Corridor due to the significant business and cultural importance found here.
Public Art Project locations must gain approval from the San Antonio Art’s Commission’s Public Art Committee before the project can continue. This project gained approval on from the Public Art Committee on September 4, 2018.
If a project is in a park or historic district/location it must gain approval from the City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation’s Historic Design Review Commission. This project did not need approval from the Historic Design Review Commission.
Project Location:
The sculpture will be located on City Property at the corner of Southwest 37th Street and Old Highway 90. There is a VIA bus Stop near the sculpture.
