About the Girls Empowerment Summit

The City of San Antonio is hosting the annual Girls Empowerment Summit for middle school and high school-aged girls in San Antonio. This year's theme is Girls Can STEM!

Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, or STEM, will present about breaking into their career fields and teach girls ways to overcome obstacles in STEM careers. Despite many advances in gender equity, there are still significant gaps in gender parity in STEM fields. A report from MIT showed that in 2023, only 28% of those in the STEM workforce identified as women. This year's Girls Empowerment Summit will provide opportunities to help breakdown those barriers to STEM.

Breakfast and lunch provided for all participants. Be sure to register soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of events can I expect?

Speakers that are leaders in their fields will be available to discuss their career paths. We will have peer-led presentations, panel discussions, and group activities to explore potential career ideas.

What food will be there?

The City will provide breakfast and lunch for the participants and their chaperone if they have one.

Is this event only for girls?

No. While the content will be primarily geared for girls and young women, all middle and high school-aged children are welcome! Women are underrepresented in STEM. Introducing girls to STEM early can help build the confidence to close the women in STEM gap.

Where can I park?

UTSA is offering it's San Pedro campus parking lot for participants and their chaperones. The parking is first come, first served. The entrance is located on Dolorosa Street. There are also paid parking lots and garages available around.

The event will be held at UTSA's San Pedro Building located downtown. The address is 506 Dolorosa Street, San Antonio, TX 78204. You can view a map of the location.

Can I get there by bus?

Riders can use Google Maps or the Transit app to plan their routes. Several lines go through downtown and conveniently stop nearby. For more information see Via Trip Planner.
