The Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) received a nomination to recognize the St. Mary’s Strip Cultural Heritage District (CHD) from Abra Schnur, Project Director for the St. Mary’s Strip History Project. The proposed St. Mary’s Strip CHD boundary spans from 339 W Josephine Street (The Josephine Theater) and the surrounding intersection of E Dewey Place, Josephine Street, and N St. Mary’s Street to approximately 3107 N St. Mary’s Street (Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church), including the 100 block of Kings Court.

OHP is moving forward with the review of the St. Mary's Strip Cultural Heritage proposal and is now seeking community feedback. 

What is a Cultural Heritage District?

The Office of Historic Preservation’s Cultural Heritage District program recognizes areas of San Antonio that represent a community’s sense of place and cultural identity. Cultural Heritage District recognition does not result in a change of zoning or regulatory requirements for properties within the CHD boundary.

The St. Mary's Strip is significant as San Antonio's only concentrated live music and nightlife corridor.
